Purdue Pharma introduced its opioid painkiller, OxyContin in 1996 and unfortunately, many high schoolers in the late 90s and early 2000s began using these substances which led to many dependence and addiction problems. Since their introduction to these drugs, many people have experienced the consequences including addiction, jail, and in some cases overdose and death.

 

Certain Personalities More Likely To Binge Drink – Yahoo News

A new study has looked into different personalities and if they make it more likely for some people to drink and binge drink. They found that those with diminished “punishment signals” — i.e. could think ahead and determine if continuing drinking would cause them to end up feeling ill — were more likely to be binge drinkers.

 

Opioids, Alcohol, and Suicide Driving Lower Life Expectancy In US – ABC News

Life expectancy has dropped for the third year in a row in the United States. This drop has primarily been caused by an increase in drug overdose deaths, alcohol abuse, and suicides. Fatal drug overdoses have increased by nearly 400 percent between 1999 and 2017 among people in their middle ages. Meanwhile alcohol and suicide rates have also increased.

 

There Are Now Vaping-Related Lung Injuries In All 50 States – CNN

This week, a teen from Alaska became the state’s first case of vaping-related lung injury. With this case, there have now been problems associated to vaping and lung illnesses in all 50 states. Across the country, there have been nearly 2,3000 cases of vaping-related lung injury according to the Center for Disease control and a total of 47 deaths have been confirmed.

 

Older Adults Taking Multiple Prescriptions Are At Risk – Chicago Tribune
